Dr. Mercianna A. J. Moxey, was born in Duncan Town Ragged Island 24th Sept. 1963. The last child of Capt. Edgar Moxey and Mrs. Erma Moxey nee Munroe  attended “mannie school” and Ragged Island All Age. The family in 1971 moved to New Providence.  She enrolled in Ridgeland Park Primary and Kingsway Academy Primary School. In 1976, Dr. Moxey entered St. Augustine’s College (SAC) Fox Hill graduating in SAC class of 1982.

Dr. Moxey continued her education at Coe College Cedar Rapids Iowa USA from 1982 to 1986 graduating with Bachelors Degree in Biology and General Science. For the next two years Dr. Moxey taught BJC General Science and O’Level Biology at her alma mater, SAC.

In1988, she entered Ross University School of Medicine, Commonwealth of Dominica graduating in 1992 with Doctor of Medicine (MD). She was successful in the American Medical Licensure Education Exam part 1 (USMLE). Dr. Moxey commenced her medical internship at the Princess Margaret Hospital Nassau in July 1992, successfully completing same eighteen months later, Dec. 1993.In 1994 Dr. Moxey was successful in passing the USMLE Part 11 and was promoted to Senior House Officer. For the next six years Dr. Moxey worked within Dept. Internal Medicine, General Practice Clinic and Accident/ Emergency at PMH.

With growing interest in Public Health, Dr. Moxey transferred to the Dept. of Public Health (DPH) where over the next ten years she worked in every community clinic on the island of New Providence receiving two promotions to medical officer and then Senior Medical Officer. In 2008, she was granted a limited in service award to obtain a Master degree in Public Health from University of South Florida (Tampa) in 2010. On returning to DPH, Dr.Moxey was appointed Senior Medical officer to the Police College, Detention Center, and weekly Chronic Non-communicable Disease (CNCD) Clinic at Flamingo Gardens Clinic.

In 2015, Dr. Moxey became Senior Medical Officer in Charge of The National Disease Surveillance Unit inclusive of Port Health, Airport Public Health Surveillance, Detention Center and lead National disease outbreak Investigations (ie Zika, Dengue, Cholera). Additionally, Dr. Moxey has made interventions on behalf of Government the Bahamas at international meetings including Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA).

In Jan 2020, after 28 years in public health, Dr. Moxey resigned from the public service. Presently, she works at Southside Medical Clinic, a facility she cofounded years ago offering health care to the communities in the south.

Dr. Moxey is a member of Christ The king Anglican Church, a lifelong student of current events/news (print or TV) and plays piano for relaxation.
